Women’s Winter Shield Final
The final of the Women’s Winter Shield four-ball matchplay event was contested by Kirri Davis and Louise Cross against Chez Edwards and Ali Ballantyne.
After a closely contested match, Kirri and Louise claimed a 3 and 2 victory.
Congratulations went to the winners and all those who qualified to play in the event.
Wednesday, July 15
The women played Stableford across both courses, while the first round of the Pga was contested on the Murray course.
On the Murray course, Karen Droop (23) was the winner with an excellent score of 37 points, while Krys Bridgeman finished runner-up on a countback from Aly Ballantyne after both players scored 36 points.
Nearest the pin: 2nd, club professional’s pin — Donna Dee Hancock; 10th — Kaye Rourke.
Balls were awarded down to 29 points.
On the Lake course, Linda Thomson was the winner with 38 points on a countback from Carol Tytler and Barbara Mathieson, with Carol finishing runner-up.
Nearest the pin: 7th, club professional’s pin — Nola Crothers; 14th — Lizzie O’Dwyer.
Balls were awarded down to 28 points.
The PGA matches produced the following results.

Chrissy Gilligan defeated Irene Cocks.
Mary Hockley defeated Helen Archer.

Saturday, July 18
A foggy start turned into a beautiful day for golf on the Murray course, where the women enjoyed a game of Stableford.
A Grade: Winner — Kaye Rourke (23), 38 points; runner-up — Karen Droop (23), 36 points.
B Grade: Winner — Irene Cocks (33), 36 points; runner-up — Catherine Borg (45), 35 points on a countback from Karen Powell (33), who also scored 35 points.
Nearest the pin: 2nd — Krys Bridgeman; 17th — Kaye Rourke.
Balls were awarded down to 30 points.

Monday, July 13
A field of 36 players contested a Stableford event.
A Grade: Winner — Louie Tempany, 19 points; runner-up — Jen Sonneman, 18 points on a countback.
B Grade: Winner — Kaz Powell, 23 points on a countback; runner-up — Ros MacInnes, 23 points.
C Grade: Winner — Carole Redpath, 16 points; runner-up — Marg Best, 15 points.
Nearest the pin, 8th hole: A and B Grades — Louie Tempany; C Grade — Carol Sampson.
Wednesday, July 17
A field of 33 players contested a Par event.
A Grade: Winner — Rhonice Ferguson, plus 3; runner-up — Paddy White, plus 1.
B Grade: Winner — Anne Byrne, plus 2; runner-up — Marg Murrell, plus 1.
C Grade: Winner — Chris Lloyd, plus 2; runner-up — Marg Evans, plus 1.

YMGCR Men’s Nine Holers
Tuesday saw the men contest a two-man Ambrose event.
On the Blue course, Les Cross and Steve Williamson paired up to claim victory in a three-way countback from Ted Latta and Steve “Darki” Day, and John Dixon and Stuart Nixon.
All three pairs finished on 31.75, with only some poor putting separating them.
Joe “the Tow” Sciberras and Bomber Mitchell claimed the final ball prize with a solid score of 32.
On the Red course, Ken Forsyth and Corny Boers teamed up to claim victory with an excellent score of 31.5.
Ray “Tammy” Minette and Roy “Minder” McCann scored 33, Tony Shead and Len Elliss finished with 33.75, and Peter Dowie and Brendan O’Farrell recorded 34 to claim the remaining ball prizes.
Thursday’s perfect weather produced some excellent scores across both courses.
Phil Dean took the honours on the Blue course with 21 points, while Ian Barton scored 19 points.
Ball prizes went to John Dixon and Ron Hocking with 18 points, Col Rosser, Len Elliss and Ray Minette with 17 points, and Tom Hackett and Michael Hope with 16 points.
Scoring was also strong on the Red course, where the 4th hole was now being played as a par three.
Greg House edged out Graham Milner and Steve Day in a countback to win the voucher with 20 points.
Ball prizes went to Dom Fotia, Frank “Barra” Mundy, Peter Mansfield and Rod Newman with 19 points, Denis McNelly with 18 points, and Steve Hutchinson with 17 points.
Tuesday, July 14
A field of 56 players contested a two-man Ambrose event.
Blue course: Winners — Les Cross and Steve Williamson, handicap 6.25, score 31.75 on a countback; runners-up — Ted Latta and Steve Day, handicap 6.25, score 31.75.
Red course: Winners — Ken Forsyth and Corny Boers, handicap 4.5, score 31.5; runners-up — Ray Minette and Roy McCann, handicap 6.0, score 33.0.
Nearest the pin: 2nd Blue — Dino LePore; 6th Blue — Club; 2nd Red — Andrew Beattie; 7th Red — Corny Boers.

A field of 66 players contested a Stableford event.
Blue course: Winner — Phil Dean, handicap 15, 21 points; runner-up — Ian Barton, handicap 14, 19 points.
Red course: Winner — Greg House, handicap 11, 20 points on a countback; runner-up — Graham Milner, handicap 13, 20 points.
Nearest the pin: 2nd Blue — Artie Massey; 8th Blue — Len Elliss; 2nd Red — Steve Day; 7th Red — Peter Mansfield.
