The Yarrawonga Under 12s faced a tough challenge at home on Sunday, going down to a bigger and stronger Lavington outfit, 27 to 65.
The first half was an even contest, with both teams showing strong effort and determination. Ollie McDonald was the standout in front of goal early, kicking Yarrawonga’s only two goals for the first half. George Watson also contributed well in defence during the opening stages.

Across the ground, Yarrawonga’s leaders stood tall, with Lewis Hargreaves, Marley Bigger and Nic Liddell all putting in impressive performances.
The trio worked tirelessly, showing skill, grit and a strong desire to win the ball.

Charlie Kennedy battled hard in the midfield all day, attacking the contest with determination, while Zack Briffa showed great resilience in defence against a much bigger opponent, never giving up and competing strongly throughout the match.
Maddox Oughton and Ned O’Brien applied consistent pressure, and Alex Mulquiney provided valuable drive for the side.
In the final quarter, the young Pigeons lifted their intensity, playing with energy and determination. Marley Bigger and Sam Hicks both hit the scoreboard with goals, giving the team a well-deserved boost and lifting team spirits.
Despite the result, the effort and teamwork shown by the Yarrawonga players was commendable against a physically stronger side.
