The day kicked off at Benalla Library, where the public knitters were able to meet and catch up, with a presentation given about the crafty social media platform Ravelry.
There is so much to do on the platform, from tracking your tools and yarn stash to showing off your finished work and finding the perfect pattern.
Activities then moved to the Benalla Visitor Information Centre, where members were introduced to the world of competitive knitting.
One member shared her experiences participating in Sock Madness, an international sock-knitting competition in which teams race to complete intricate sock patterns with both speed and accuracy.
The afternoon also featured an introductory crochet workshop.
To conclude the day, attendees were introduced to the art of weaving using simple cardboard looms.
Following the weaving demonstration, there was a presentation from the Benalla A&P Society which encouraged crafters to consider entering their creations in the upcoming Benalla Spring Show.
A raffle was held to raise money for the group’s insurance, with some fantastic prizes, including gift vouchers for Bendigo Woolen Mills, Your Everyday Gourmet, Spotlight, and items from Millers, Rambling Rose, and donated (and created) by group members.
Worldwide Knit in Public Day is celebrated annually to encourage crafters to gather, share skills and enjoy the social benefits of knitting and other fibre arts.
