At a time when aged care services are under increasing pressure and many providers are closing their books, Intereach's decision to accept new referrals means older people can access support when they need it - not weeks or months later.
Intereach operations general manager Sarah Matthews said the move was good news for seniors wanting to remain independent and living in the homes and communities they know and love.
“For many older people, a little bit of support at the right time can make all the difference,” Ms Matthews said.
“Whether it's help around the home, personal care, transport, social connection or respite for a carer, these services allow people to maintain their independence, stay connected to their community and continue living safely at home.
“Demand for aged care services is growing across regional and rural communities, which is why having our CHSP portals open is so important.
“It means we can accept new referrals and begin delivering services quicker.”
Referrals for CHSP services are now open locally, and to those based in Bendigo, Albury/Corowa and surrounds, Macedon Ranges and Loddon.
For the Deniliquin, Finley, Barham and surrounds areas in particular, services include domestic assistance, equipment and products, home maintenance and repairs, respite, personal care, social support and transport.
“The CHSP provides introductory-level practical help before needs become more complex,” Ms Matthews said.
“Support with everyday tasks, social connection and personal care can make a significant difference to someone’s independence and confidence, while helping to reduce isolation and improve their overall wellbeing.”
The benefits extend beyond clients themselves, with respite services also supporting carers to take a break and sustain their caring role.
Across regional areas, many older people face challenges such as social isolation, limited transport, reduced mobility and difficulty maintaining their homes - issues CHSP services are specifically designed to address.
“Our staff live and work in the communities they serve.
“They understand local needs and are committed to helping people remain active, connected and independent for as long as possible.”
Intereach is also helping people navigate the aged care system and connect with support available through My Aged Care.
Ms Matthews urged older people and their families to take steps now to seek help before everyday tasks become overwhelming.
“Many people don't realise support is available earlier than they expect.
“If daily tasks are becoming harder, or if someone is feeling isolated, it might be the right time to seek support.
“At Intereach, we're proud to be a trusted local provider. Our focus is always on working alongside people, respecting their choices and helping them live life on their terms.”
