Almost 100 guests from across the district gathered at the Rochy Hotel to celebrate the Rochester Senior Citizens’ Club's 60th anniversary.

Founded in 1966, the club has spent six decades providing programs, activities and social opportunities that help keep senior citizens from Rochester and surrounding communities connected.

Members, friends and supporters came together for a special luncheon on Thursday, May 28, to mark the milestone and reflect on the club's history and their time together.
President Leeanne Fullard took the chance to acknowledge the many people who have contributed to the club’s success over the years.

“A big thank you to all who have been part of the senior citizens’ club past and present for making this milestone possible,” she said.
“It would be impossible without volunteers. They keep everything running, both in the club and those who have and are still working as volunteers in the op shop.
“This is what keeps us able to do what we are doing.”

A highlight of the celebrations was the cutting of a special anniversary cake by the club's oldest member, 97-year-old Noreen Amy.
The luncheon also provided an opportunity to recognise the contribution of long-serving volunteers.

It was announced that Mrs Fullard will step down as manager of the club’s op shop after nine years in the role.
Her efforts in transforming the store into the popular op shop it is today were acknowledged during the event, with members presenting her with flowers and a card in appreciation of her service.
While stepping away from managing the store, Mrs Fullard will continue to play a key role in the organisation as president of the club.
