Storytime celebrates reading

Finley St Joseph’s Primary School students from Kindergarten to Year 4 visited Finley Library last Wednesday to take part in National Simultaneous Storytime 2026.

The annual storytime event sees an Australian picture book chosen by the Australian Library and Information Association, and read at the same time around the country.

The free event has taken place for the last 26 years and aims to promote the value of reading and literacy.

This year’s reading took place on Wednesday from noon.

Students enjoyed listening to ‘Luna Roo, the Kangaroo Baller’ being read by librarian Ros Rowe.

The book tells the story of rookie captain Luna Roo, who leaves nothing on the pitch as she leads FC Outback in a thrilling face-off against Bush United.

“Everyone at the Finley Library had a wonderful time listening to the story, discussing the book, and sharing their passion for soccer,” the school said.

“The students also spent time at the library colouring pictures of Luna and her friends.

“We thank Finley Library for inviting us for such a fun and engaging event.”
