A man was flown to a Melbourne hospital after a crash between a truck and a ute in the main street of Wunghnu on Friday, August 9.

Cobram Highway Patrol Senior Constable Matt Slaney said police understood the ute, which travelling north on Carlisle St allegedly passed into the southbound lane about 11.20am.

He said the ute collided with the centre axle of the truck travelling south on Carlisle St and the ute ended up resting against the guard rail on the eastern side of the road.
The 39-year-old Shepparton driver and sole occupant of the ute was worked on at the scene by passers-by before ambulance officers arrived.

He was then flown to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition, with the helicopter taking off from the Wunghnu Recreation Reserve about 12.40pm.
On Sunday, the man remained in hospital in a critical condition.
The truck driver was not injured and did not need to be treated by ambulance officers.

Sen Constable Slaney said dashcam footage captured the entire incident.
He said no charges had been laid and were not likely to be at this stage.
The road was closed in both directions from Kaarimba Rd to Wunghnu Rd for about two-and-a-half hours.
