Though a lack of crowds at next month's Winton Supersprint will hinder the usual boost the event brings to the local economy, tourism in the north east will still be front of mind when the national sport returns to the region next month.
Supercars Australia will stage the July 18 to 19 event without fans, but motorsport lovers will still be able to tune into the action on Fox Sport with highlights to screen on Channel 10.
Supercars Championship to return to Winton in July
The broadcast package will also see Victoria’s High Country promoted through tourism vignettes incorporated into the weekend coverage.
“We are excited to welcome Supercars back to Winton and to showcase our region to a national audience,” Benalla Auto Club chief executive Chris Lewis-Williams said.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said though it had been a tough year in the face of a global pandemic, the Supercars event would help the region rebound once restrictions continued to ease.

“It’s great that Winton can continue hosting this important event and is well placed to thrive on the other side of the pandemic,” Ms Symes said.
Tourism, Sport and Major Events Minister Martin Pakula also welcomed the confirmation of the SuperSprint series.
“Tourism is an important part of the High Country and the national broadcast package in place will help to keep it front of mind for travellers as they begin to make holiday plans for the rest of the year,” Mr Pakula said.
