Benalla Saints have been left kicking themselves after kicking inaccuracy cost it a win against top side Seymour in Goulburn Valley League football.
After racing ahead early, the Saints watched Seymour kick eight goals to four after the first change, with Benalla failing to capitalise in front of the sticks in the 7.10 (52) to 9.2 (56) defeat.
Benalla coach Jake Pallpratt said the loss was a tough pill to swallow, considering the Saints finished with more scoring shots.
“It sucked to lose,” Pallpratt said.
“We were in the game right up to our ears.
“It was the best four-quarter performance of the year, but we didn't capitalise on our opportunities, but they are a good team.”
Nick Warnock booted three for the Saints, while Sam Martyn, Jamie Dunne and Callum Crisp were Benalla's other scorers.
Despite the loss, Pallpratt said his group would take plenty of positives from the game.
“All the teams we’ve lost to apart from Kyabram, we've been in the game,” he said.
“We are starting to understand how each other plays and we see there is a lot of improvement in us and it gives us a lot of confidence going forward.”
