After a relatively even first half against Wangaratta College, Benalla kicked eight goals to one for the remainder of the game to win by 47 points at the Friendlies Reserve.
Kyle Termorshuizen, Liam Curtis, Zack Liddington and Sam Cox all playing key roles in the victory for the home side.
Earlier, the Benalla Bulldogs Under-12s and Under-14s sides were defeated by the College in hard-fought matches.
The Shane Richardson-coached Under-12s went within three points of notching their first win of the season, coming from behind the last quarter to nearly snatch the victory.
After a slow start, the young Doggies dominated the third quarter, but were only able to score three points.
Two goals in the final quarter saw the margin reduce to less than a goal as the Bulldogs’ pressure and workrate started to turn the match.
Angus Richardson, Koby Thwaites, Linc Woolley, Ryder Robertson and Hudson Blyss were the best players.
The Bulldogs Under-14s battled hard in their match against the second-placed College.
Trailing by three goals at three-quarter time, the Bulldogs ran out of steam in the last quarter allowing the visitors to run away with the match.
Jaxon Brunner and Albert Moll were big contributors for the Dogs.
● On Saturday at the Norm Minns Oval, the Giants came away with two losses against the Junior Magpies.
The Under-12s enjoyed their best start to a game this season, matching it with the Magpies to only trail by a goal.
The home-side then moved into overdrive and 15 goals to two to win the match comfortably.
Despite the loss there were some great positives for the young Giants who continue to improve and work hard on the training track.
The two Joshs – Hart and Mathieson – continued their great start to the season, once again contributing strongly over four quarters.
Noah Hogan played his best game for the season forward and through the midfield, while co-captains Poppe Dewinne and Liam Fielding worked hard and set a high standard to follow.
Angus Hayes and Amy Lowe both kicked goals.
In the Under-14s, the Giants knew it was going to be a tough game against the undefeated ladder leaders.
The Giants showed great teamwork during the game, particularly in defence thanks to the efforts Oliver Smyth, Xavier Wapling and Hamish Willettt.
Jaidyn Chee kicked four goals for the Giants to peg back the final margin to 32-points.
Owen Boyle, Smyth, Wapling, Aidan McDonald, Pat Cornella and Willett were the Giants’ best.
This weekend there is a general bye for interleague matches.
