The grants are specifically aimed at groups looking to preserve locally owned collections and artefacts.
Member for Euroa Steph Ryan is asking local community groups to submit an application for grants up to $15000.
‘‘The Community Heritage Grants program provides local historical societies, libraries, museums and multicultural groups with the opportunity to apply for funding to assist with a range of projects,’’ Ms Ryan said.
Grants are provided to assist with the preservation of locally owned, but nationally significant collections of materials that are publicly accessible including artefacts, letters, diaries, maps, photographs and audio visual material.
The types of projects supported by the grant include:
●significance assessments of collections;
●preservation needs assessments of collections;
●conservation activities and collection management; and
●training workshops.
‘‘This is a fantastic opportunity for community groups to receive financial support to help preserve important pieces of our local history,’’ Ms Ryan said.
‘‘I encourage all historical societies across the electorate to consider lodging an application.’’
Grant applications are now open and will close 5pm, Monday, May 6.
