They could describe literally the depths or lakes and oceans, or, they could describe metaphorically the human experience of finding oneself in a vulnerable or dangerous situation.
Interpreting a set subject through their works — in this case, these three words — is a challenge Splinter Contemporary Artists has met with flying colours and meticulous brush strokes time and again.

The group’s latest exhibition, titled In Deep Water, showcases a selection of local artists’ takes on the theme.
“There are times when we feel overwhelmed, in too deep, incapable of extricating ourselves and resolving an issue,” Splinter publicity officer Bev Dowd said.
“Some of the paintings, textiles and ceramics delve into the emotional depths of ordinary life, while others depict the blues and greens of the deep sea as a metaphor.”
The exhibition is now showing at Kyabram Town Hall Gallery from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, until the end of July.

Entry is via a gold coin and all works on display are for sale.
