Police are a significant cog in the mechanics of a community, and a local service club has recognised the work of local Victoria Police members in Shepparton with an awards night at The Peppermill Inn on May 19.
The Rotary Club of Shepparton puts on the police awards biannually, with award finalists nominated by their peers.
As a first this year, the police who made the nominations outlined the finalists’ backgrounds for the audience.
This year’s nominees were Detective Senior Constable Scott Begbie and Constable Emma Rogers.
Detective Senior Constable Begbie was crowned the winner.
Prue Dobson, Peter Johnson and Sam Renato were tasked with judging the awards.
“The judges panel really appreciate the enormity of the task to select one above the other,” event chair David Shipston said.
“Scott and Emma are both inspirational officers who believe in what they do and do what they believe in: keeping the community safe and upholding the law.”
Around 40 members and guests attended the event for a two-course meal and socialisation after formalities.
Other Shepparton police present included Superintendent Brett Kahan, Acting Inspector Brad Fisher, Senior Sergeant Jasmine Gregor and Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Shortis.
“A vote of thanks from Jenny Hill to all the police present for the outstanding service they give was well received and accepted,” Mr Shipston said.
The meeting also marked the end of Josh Freeman’s Rotary Club of Shepparton presidency duties, before the club welcomed in its new president, Mervin D’Silva, on May 23.
