Established by the Rotary Club of Pascoe Vale in memory of Peter Toomey, a police officer and Rotarian, it continues today as part of his legacy and honours those who embody police values of flexibility, leadership, integrity, respect and professionalism.
The award recognises dedication and outstanding service provided by a police officer to their community.
The Rotary Club of Seymour Police Officer of the Year Award for 2026 was presented by president Ruth Byers to Detective Sergeant Julie Trimble for her exemplary commitment to the community as head of the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team.
Before the award presentation of a shield and personalised plaque, Acting Inspector Jamie Cutler provided club members with background information about Det Sgt Trimble.
The Rotary Club of Seymour’s Peter Toomey Police Officer of the Year for 2025-26 is Detective Sergeant Julie Trimble.
A Rotary spokesperson said Det Sgt Trimble had been involved with the police force for 37 years, working with the victims at the centre of various crime scenes in rural and metropolitan settings.
“She is now the unit commander of her team, managing a crew of six detectives, and has shown great diligence to rise to her rank,” the spokesperson said.
“She is an experienced member of the police force who remains positive and calm under, at times, extreme pressure.”
It is not only her vocation that creates challenges for Det Sgt Trimble.
On her recent vacation to Spain, she participated in a 780km walk along the Camino de Santiago from one side of the country to the other, taking 35 days.
Det Sgt Trimble said she was honoured to receive the award and was grateful for the support of her close-knit team and her family.
She described her work as difficult, but extremely rewarding.
