It was a productive Mother’s Day afternoon on the Edward River for Tom McKern, who landed the best of six fish while on a wood cutting mission.

Taking time out from the job at hand, he dropped in a line and caught a solid 80cm Murray cod on yabby.

Tom’s catch was the standout of the session, but as he admits his mum, Fiona McKern, still out‑fished everyone on the day.

A great family outing and another reminder that the Edward continues to deliver quality cod for local anglers.

Anyone can wet a line in summer, but it takes a special kind of stubborn optimism to sit in a tinny on a frosty morning, clutching a rod in one hand and wondering if your fingers are still attached.
