Both will now go onto represent Tocumwal and their school at the regional final on August 16 in Finley.
The high quality of speeches was a highlight when students of Tocumwal Public School and Sacred Heart Primary School Tocumwal participated, with each student presenting a prepared speech to the families, friends, teachers and Lions members who attended.
They had previously presented their speeches at school.
The Year 3/4 three minute topic was: ‘If you could go on a holiday anywhere in Australia, where would you go and why? Tell us about it, what can you see and what can you do there?’.
Alysa Isma Nur spoke about Mount Hotham, Xavier Crighton on the Island Bend campground, Arabella Nicholson talked about the Gold Coast and Lenny Cardillo about Sydney.
Year 5/6 gave a four minute speech on the topic: ‘If you could have dinner with anyone in the world (a real person past or present), who would it be, and why, and what would you serve them for dinner?’.
Isaac Crighton chose Harold Holt, Elayna Ring spoke about Yungblud and Savannah Ross about Lainey Wilson.
Year 5/6 students also had 10 minutes to prepare a one minute speech answering a question prepared by the judges: ‘The teacher has asked you to plan a two-day excursion. Where would you go and why?’.
Answers included Canberra, the Great Barrier Reef and a farm.
All students who participated in the program were congratulated, with organisers commenting it was clear how much research and practice went into each and every speech.
Thanks was extended to judges Clare Hallett and Peter Taylor, who had tough decisions to make.
