In football action, Mansfield remains undefeated in the Goulburn Valley League; the Eagles producing a goal-fest at home to see off a gallant Benalla side.
The ladder-leaders turned it on against the undermanned Saints, with a 51-point-to-nothing second quarter the turning point.
Benalla battled strongly throughout the game, however the visitors’ efforts did not translate to the scoreboard, with Mansfield coming away with a mammoth 22.16 (148) to 5.5 (35) victory.
Chris Welsh put in a shift through the middle, while James Martiniello and Jake Pallpratt also worked tirelessly.
Tom Downie stepped into the Saints’ back six for his first game of the season, managing to get on the score sheet in his first game back.
The Saints’ under-18s outfit also went down to a strong Mansfield; Ryley Ely, Liam Curtis, Colby Mathieson, Charlie Burfield and Liam Thivillier-Lefebvre battled hard for the visitors.
Despite going down to reigning premier Nathalia in round three of Northern Country Women’s League, the women’s football outfit can take plenty of positives from the 14.10 (94) to 2.2 (14) defeat.
