Tongala has added the centrepiece to its National Vietnam Cavalry Memorial.
A 10-tonne Armoured Personnel Carrier, or APC, is on show in the town and a 3rd Cavalry Regiment Association member Michael Thompson said it could not look better.
‘‘She’s in battle order at the moment, looking straight at you,’’ he said.
The APC was known as the workhorse of the Australian Army in Vietnam and the one on show in Tongala has some battle scars of its own, having hit a landmine in Vietnam during its time in use.

Rapt to be a Hall of Famer
A young guy called Chris Stuhldreier came to Kyabram in 1990 and for the next six seasons kicked the living crap out of the Goulburn Valley Football League.
In every one of his six years there he kicked more than 100 goals.
With a staggering 171 in 1993, a total it is hard to see anyone matching in the style football is now played (in 1992 he could only manage 155).
But the biggest super boot in GVFL history came back to his old stamping ground at the weekend to be inducted into the league’s Hall of Fame.

Consistent Charlie does it again
Kyabram’s Charlie Waite demonstrated again why he has a reputation as being one of the district’s most consistent carpet bowlers by claiming the District Singles Championship for the third successive time last week.
And it was the fifth time Charlie has won the title.
Waite, who also has a state singles championship to his long list of credits, defeated June Varcoe to complete his hat-trick of titles.
The championship is decided between players from the Kyabram and Girgarre associations.

David’s Atlanta bound
David Cunningham, manager of the Tatura Abattoirs for the past seven years, has been selected to represent Australia in Atlanta in both skeet and clay target shooting.
Twelve years ago, David had his first experience at target shooting; at wild ducks — and much to his disappointment, he didn’t hit one.
Since that day he has come a long way, and through sheer determination and belief in himself, he has made the 1996 Olympic team.
Missing out narrowly on being selected for the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 only made David more committed to achieve.

A chance meeting — and 60 years of marriage bliss
A chance meeting in a Kyabram coffee parlour in 1914 reached a magical milestone today for a Kyabram couple.
Mr and Mrs Vera Jordan of Haslem St Kyabram are today quietly celebrating their Diamond wedding anniversary.
And both agree the secret to a successful marriage is being happy together.
Mrs Jordan (nee Florence Baker) can still recall the day they met in 1914.

Champion of small wheels
For this month’s champion we look to the smallest wheels in motor racing — go karts — and our champion is twice State International Light weight champion, Stephen Brooks of Congupna.
Stephen, a mechanic at Victor Sylvester Motors in Shepparton, first won the State Championship in 1974.
Because of motor troubles he could not defend the title last year and regained it recently at Cobram.
Go-Kart Racing in the Goulburn Valley is at present carried out on a dirt track at Cobram, but a bitumen track will be opened in Numurkah with a Gold Star Meeting in September this year.
