The record may read 0-3, but the Benalla Saints’ A-grade team is building momentum despite what results say.
Saturday's 10-goal defeat to Shepparton at Deakin Reserve was the side's closest losing margin of the season, and stacked up against a youthful Bears opposition, there were positives aplenty for the Saints.
The Saints were right in the race throughout, handling Tracey Brereton's fast midcourt until the final quarter.
Earlier, Benalla trailed by just two goals at the half, and kept it close as the scores read 21-17 in Shepparton's favour at the third change.
However, the Bears conjured a massive 14-goal final term to break away from Benalla and claim its first win of the season.
Kelsey Pallprat, Rhiannon Dolahenty and Grace Amarant were named best on court for the Saints.
In B-grade, Benalla fell behind to a strong Shepparton side, eventually losing out 66-40.
Results went the way of Shepparton in B-reserve also, as the Bears clinched a narrow 35-26 win.
Benalla's 17-and-under and 15-and-under couldn't produce a victory, and will go again on Saturday when all the Saints sides take on Mansfield at home.
